RUNNING FOR COVER1st Annual Running for Cover Run/Walk raises over $30,000 for melanoma research
Over 300 runners and walkers raised more than $40,000 during the 1st Annual Foundation for Melanoma Research Running for Cover Run/Walk that was held on Sunday, June 25 at the Wachovia Complex. Runners and walkers gathered to raise awareness for melanoma research, celebrate survivors and honor loved ones who lost their battle with melanoma. The date for next years Running for Cover is June 24, 2007. "Melanoma has become the fastest growing form of cancer and more money needs to be raised for research", said Comcast-Spectacor chairman and co-chair for Running for Cover, Ed Snider. "Comcast-Spectacor is happy to support this important initiative to not only raise awareness on melanoma but to raise additional funding to find a cure. We always want to support our local community."
Area residents made a direct contribution to helping fund research to find a cure for melanoma. Funds raised will be donated to the Wistar Institute, one of the nation's first cancer institutes and one of only eight devoted to basic research in Philadelphia.
