THE FACES PROJECTThe Noreen O'Neill Foundation for Melanoma Research was founded by Noreen O'Neill who died four years ago from malignant melanoma. When she started the foundation she was shocked to find that some researchers had never met a melanoma patient. Read comments by Meenhard Herlyn. The Foundation is gathering pictures of melanoma patients to display at researcher's meetings. Please help us put a human face on this disease. The researchers need to know who you are for their own knowledge and inspiration. We would welcome an essay on your story or the story of the person whose picture you are sending for our website. Send your photo by mail, as well as a signed release to the address below, or email a digital image to info@foundationformelanomaresearch.org. Please make a copy of your photo before mailing as photos will not be returned. We also welcome melanoma memorials. Your story for our website is also welcome.
What you need to do... Send a 4x6 photo with a release to: Julie O'Malley Put name, address, and date of birth on the back. Also include date of first melanoma episode. Thank you. The Photo Montage Committee
Save Our Skins (SOS)Melanoma, the fastest growing and one of the deadliest cancers, presents a cruel paradox. The teen years are the years when the sun can cause severe skin damage. This damage can lead to melanoma decades later. The teen years also are when people are most likely to take chances with the sun. They bask for beauty and forgo protection in active outdoor lives. The foundation aims to resolve this paradox where it starts - with High School students. We have developed a pilot program called Save Our Skins (SOS) and we invite all students to participate. The Pacifico Ford Family Foundation offers two $500 awards for top participants. |
